Gift creates new masters Program in American Studies

Dr. Katherine Morrison has committed $1.6 million to support American Studies in the Faculty of Social Science.
Dr. Morrison’s investment will help to establish a new MA Program in American Studies - a program that will be the only graduate program in American Studies in Canada. In 2003, Dr. Morrison gave $750,000 to establish an undergraduate program in American Studies at Western.
Dr. Morrison received her PhD from University of Toronto and is the author of Canadians Are Not Americans: Myths and Literary Traditions (2003). She has chosen to support American Studies at Western because of the strong academic record in this area--a record that has been greatly enhanced in recent years through the work of Dr. Don Abelson, the current Director of the Centre for American Studies.
