The renovation and completion of the Paul Davenport Theatre at Western’s Talbot College will provide the University’s students, alumni, and friends with a beautiful venue to showcase musical and artistic talent on campus. The theatre has been named in honour of Dr. Paul Davenport, for his fifteen years of service as President of The University of Western Ontario.
Since its opening in 1966, the former Talbot Theatre has been the home of university plays, musicals and film festivals. The Theatre is the main venue for UWOpera, Theatre Western and other independent theatre groups across campus as well as hosting groups from London schools, Canadian theatre groups and even international dance troupes.
In June 2009, a stellar group of performers that included past graduates and current students from the Don Wright faculty of Music gathered to pay tribute to Dr. Davenport. Notable alumna Louise Pitre, BMus’79, DMus’06, was among the performers and said she was thrilled to play a role in raising funds for the theatre where she got her start. Donors and volunteers to the Paul Davenport Theatre make a difference by helping the University enrich humanity through the arts, music and culture.
