Jon Hall believes he has been blessed in many ways. One of those has been the success of his business, a tile flooring store. Jon wants to share his blessings with others and has established two bursaries through a gift of life insurance to Western.

Jon didn’t have the opportunity to attend university, even though he wanted to become a doctor. He began working at age 9 and today is a successful entrepreneur enjoying what he describes as semi-retirement with his wife Roberta.

“I’ve been blessed with a good partner,” says Jon. “One day Roberta and I were talking about how we’re now enjoying all the things we couldn’t before. I had the idea to set up a bursary for a young man and a young woman to help them attend Western if they wouldn’t be able to otherwise.”

The couple wants to support young people who demonstrate academic ability and financial need because they believe in higher education and in Western. Jon chose a gift of life insurance because the regular, tax-deductible, premium payments help him to take a disciplined approach to giving, and allow him to make a much larger gift.

Jon’s business was established in 1968 when a friend encouraged him. Not until decades later did Jon learn his friend had secretly guaranteed the stock of the new venture to suppliers. It’s that kind of heartfelt support the Halls want to provide for students at Western, to help them fulfil their own dreams.
